Laos Government issued a notice increase Subsistence Allowance for Low-Income Workers

On 27 September 2024, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare issued a Notice, No. 3534/MOLSW, regarding the payment of subsistence allowances to low-income workers. This initiative aims to support workers with limited qualifications who earn less than a certain threshold.

Key Points of the Notice:

Eligibility: Unprofessional workers without formal education who earn less than 2,500,000 Kip per month (excluding overtime, welfare, and other policy-based payments) are eligible for the allowance.

Allowance Amount: Eligible workers will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of 900,000 Kip. This means their total monthly income, including wages, will be at least 2,500,000 Kip..

Employer Responsibility: Employers are required to revise their payroll systems to ensure compliance with the new policy.

Effective Date: The policy will take effect from 1 October 2024.
